During our recruitment activities, we are often asked questions such as, “What are HighChem’s strengths?” and “What is your company’s ‘moat’?” The thing I am most proud of is our ability to overcome adversity.
Even during challenging times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, the Great East Japan Earthquake, and the global financial crisis of 2008, HighChem continued to expand its business and achieve growth. I firmly believe that the driving force behind this success has undoubtedly been the power of our people.
HighChem has attracted many employees who set ambitious goals and possess the ability to see them through — the determination to keep moving forward without giving up along the way. A mindset of “If we take on something, we finish it” and “We do not simply follow the flow; we continue until we are truly satisfied” has become deeply rooted within the company.
For example, in our trading business, Japanese business practices generally do not involve easily changing suppliers once a business relationship has been established. I believe this is a very positive practice, but for HighChem, a company with strong Chinese roots and a small scale in its early days, entering existing supply chains was by no means easy. However, we never gave up and continued to steadily support our customers. When economic conditions became challenging and supply chains were at risk of disruption, we worked tirelessly to solve those problems and gradually earned their trust. By steadily increasing the number of business partners in this way, our company has continued to grow step by step.
The same applies to our manufacturing business. Each researcher working on SEG® technology has continued to refine our core technologies, while our technical engineers have worked tirelessly on-site, sometimes staying overnight for many days to solve challenges. By standing in our customers’ shoes, thinking together, and taking action together — these continuous efforts have allowed us to become recognized as a global leader in SEG® technology.
